D. THE CURRENT ERA 1921-2219 CE IN CONTEXT
The following table shows all the Saturn-Jupiter conjunctions occurring in the current Era. There are eleven such conjunctions in the current Era.
The evolution of the world therefore in this Era is through the paradigm of Kanya: consumerism, business, resource yield, resource access, environment use and optimization, and all sciences related to these fields.
D1. Brahma Yoga Pattern
Here we can see that the Brahma Yoga (Saturn-Jupiter) combinations in this Era take the world through a Earth-Fire phase (1921-2020), followed by a strongly Earth phase (2020-2100), followed by an Air-Earth phase (2100+).
During the Earth-Fire phase (1921-2020) the competition for earthly resources and environmental management has gone through changes, largely spurred on by the fires of war and the dominance of the military-industrial complex. In the Aries Brahma Yoga periods we had notable wars taking place: World War II (1940-1961), and the War on Terrorism (2000-2020).
The Earth phase (2020-2100) will see a dominance of the “business” interest and the financial/commercial players in directing the world evolution.
We can surmise that post-2100 in the Earth-Air phase, we can see the first proper other-planetary settlements formalizing, as well as the opening up of faster travel and communication across the globe. This is emphasized by the exalted Ketu happening in these periods, which can also indicate moves toward better global governance.
D2. Tumultuous Periods
The most tumultuous periods for the world are 1961-1981 (Capricorn-Aquarius), 2000-2020 (Aries-Capricorn), and 2020-2040 (Capricorn-Scorpio).
The Capricorn-Aquarius period we see the rise of Saturn. This period brought the power to the former slaves and colonies as they rose up to claim their independence from their former masters. We can see the signification of Aquarius and the influence of Rāhu (North Node of the Moon) propagating through devices all over the world. The Cold War formed the backdrop to major politicization of the media with mass television bringing the harsh realities of the world into the homes of people for the first time, most notably with the Vietnam War in the US.
The Aries-Aquarius period (2000-2020) began with major global shifts related to the War on Terrorism sparked by the attack on US soil of the Twin Towers in New York city in September 2001. We have also seen the rise of global terrorism in this period in offshoot terrorism groups such as Boko Haram in Africa and the ISIS Caliphate in the Middle East. These are ongoing challenges to global establishment security and peace. The energy of the period has been of a Mars-Rāhu nature battle between governmental order and anti-governmental chaos.
The Capricorn-Scorpio period (2020-2040) began with major health concerns sparked by the Covid-19 pandemic. Saturn-Ketu combinations on a physical level involve a struggle between entrapment and freedom dynamics, something which everyone has experienced as this period began with the various enforced lockdowns in countries all around the world in 2020. Capricorn and Scorpio are very visceral energies and this period can also bring up the unseen world of Scorpio to deal with: cybersecurity, privacy, as well as genetic modifications and the use/abuse of life energies. It also indicates the application of coding/cybersecurity technologies toward the financial and health systems in the world. The Ketu in Scorpio phase (2020-2060) emphasize that over 40 years these themes will feature very strongly in the evolutionary journey of the world.
A Scorpio Ketu emphasis also aligns with the fact that our organic life is becoming more and more inorganic. The natural physical body and flow of the mind is connected with the Moon. Both Ketu and Scorpio are inimical to the Moon. The organic systems are giving way to the inorganic and virtual or artificial. Perhaps in the next 40 years there will be bioengineered or genetically engineered body parts that will help facilitate life cross over the limitations of the organic body on earth but also in space.
E. CURRENT ERA TOPICAL EXAMPLE
Lets us look at the current Era chart and look at a topical example with it to see the how the major periods generated from it bring out the evolution and manifestation of some concept in the world via the subperiods.
We will look at the Ketu subperiod in the normal Viṁśottari daśa timing scheme. We expect to see an evolution in a concept pertaining to computing, and new unseen or virtual technologies.
